Letting someone drive my car and then them consistently fucking up shifts. This person drives stick, I pray for their poor car.

He wants to buy a Mustang and I thought he knew what he was doing. It was a short (but messy) drive and I’ll be the only one driving it for a bit.

I bought a 2010 Camaro SS new, and picked up a 1989 Corvette at the end of last summer. Both are 6 speed manuals. To be fair, I reved too high and rode the clutch too much when I test drove the Corvette because of what I was used to in the Camaro. Got used to the Corvette fairly quickly and it was my DD right off the bat. When I drove the Camaro a few weeks later I felt like a complete putz, like it was the first time I test drove a manual V8 Camaro before ordering mine. The ZF and Tremec are two different beasts. Every car is different. Even with the same engine and trans combo, they might feel different depending on how the car was driven over its life.

Every car is different but, it still hurts when you’re helpless in the passenger seat while someone is short shifting, slamming gears, riding the clutch, and stalling.

Oh agreed 100%. It definitely hurts inside. The anxiety automatically goes through the roof any time somebody else drives one of my cars.

This seems like a solid policy. I do want to teach the girlfriend to drive stick but that will be in the 330xi, the Mustang is mine and only mine after today’s display of incompetence.

Call me a control freak but nobody but an occasional service rep has ever driven my last three vehicles but me... My wife doesn’t really want to drive stick, (though she can, her first two vehicles were manuals.) And I never valet...

It hurt but, he had a blast driving it. Easily the fastest thing he’s driven and he is looking at getting one. Everyone should drive something they love and if this is what gets him there it’s a win. And honestly, if my car is fucked after a 20 minute thrashing it’s probably no good anyway.

I’ve been in the other’s position before.

My ‘90 ZR-1 has a moderately stiff clutch with a long throw. The transmission is a 6 speed and I know how each gear position feels.

You throw me into an HHR SS, I’m going to fuck it up. Why? Because the clutch has zero feel and is like an on/off switch in comparison and third gear on that shitty 5-speed feels like where first is on my car. Honestly, the placement of the stick in that car is absolutely dreadful.
